The Black History Month assembly takes place during the month of February and is a time to remember and celebrate African Americans and their culture and heritage. I try to feature song, music, dance and story. There is a lot of talent in Milwaukee and in MPS. Three of the four years I've chaired the committee, I've had dancers from MPS schools perform. This year, we had our first writing contest and it went well. It's always stirring to hear the young voices raised in "Lift Every Voice and Sing".
