From the PTA President… Erika Conner
Dear Parents, Teachers and Staff Members,
Heading into November the days are getting shorter, but that doesn’t slow us down. There are still many
things packed into our MGIS days. Some up coming events include: Our annual Food Drive Nov. 5-9 and Laternennacht on Nov. 9 at 6:30p.m. The Laternennacht sing a long will be held outside on the playground. Children should remain with their parents and should be respectful during this event. Please dress for the weather.
Our Mr. Z’s fundraiser ended on October 8. Pick-up delivery is on November 7 at 3:30 p.m. in the gym. This is your only chance to pick up your order; we will not hold anyone’s order. We can always use more help at pick up. E-mail Stephanie Rasmussen at Rasmussm@milwaukee.k12.wi.us or call 688-9677, if you would like to help.
We will have our November PTA meeting on Thursday, November 29 at 6:30 p.m. Attending the meeting is a great way to find out what is going on at MGIS. You will have a chance to join the PTA, buy Scrip, and win a Scrip gift card. However, there will NOT be childcare available for this meeting.
There will be no school for the Thanksgiving holiday - Nov. 22 and 23. Looking ahead to December, we will once again have our beloved Weihnachtsmarkt (the Secret Santa Craft Bazaar) on Dec. 8 from 10a.m. to 3p.m. There will be no December PTA meeting. Winter break is Dec. 24 - Jan. 2.
On Sept. 27, the second graders attended the Milwaukee Public Library to hear a story, check out a book and sign up for their first library card. Frau Prah’s class went to Old World Wisconsin on Oct. 4 to visit the German Farm area to see what life was like for the first German settlers in Wisconsin. All 3rd, 4th and 5th graders went to Marcus Center to hear the Milwaukee Symphony on Oct. 9. The 5th grade went to Discovery World and leaned all about trash & recycling, and also created their own wallet out of recycled materials. The 5th grade also went to the “Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” play at The Milwaukee Youth Theatre on Oct. 24. Menominee Indian, Wade Fernandez, an award-winning vocals, guitar, songwriting, native flute & drumming performer visited MGIS on Friday Oct. 26 and put on an all school performance. Kindergarten also celebrated Spinnentag on Oct. 31st. by creating creepy crafts and learning about spiders.
Pro Boards is our new Official PTA Forum. It is an easy way for the MGIS community to communicate.
Check out the article inside for more details.
Leadership roles in the PTA will be available for next year--this is a great time to “shadow” a position you might like to fill. We can always use volunteers. If you have any questions, please e-mail me at
